OuchMac Features
Everything in the app — no upsells, no hidden tiers.
📡Real Accelerometer Detection
OuchMac reads directly from your MacBook's built-in accelerometer — the same sensor that protects your hard drive when your laptop drops. When it detects a significant impact, OuchMac fires instantly. No input delay, no polling lag.
Works with any physical impact: a desk bump, a slap on the lid, or a sudden jolt. The detection is hardware-level, so it responds even before you process the sound.
🎵8 Sound Packs
OuchMac ships with 8 curated sound packs, each with multiple sounds that rotate randomly so you never hear the same one twice in a row.
Packs included: Goat (goat screams), Sexy (suggestive), WTF (absurd reactions), Fart (classic), Classic (cartoon ouch), Retro (8-bit), Cartoon (slapstick), Ghost (haunted Mac). Each pack has 4–6 sounds.
🎚️Sensitivity Control
A slider in the menubar popover lets you tune exactly how sensitive OuchMac is. Set it low for gentle taps, high for only hard impacts.
This is important for usability. At the default setting, normal typing and placing your laptop down do not trigger sounds — only real bumps do. Adjust until it feels right for your desk setup.
🔲Lives in Your Menubar
OuchMac has no dock icon and no separate window. It runs silently in your menubar, accessible with a single click when you want to change packs or adjust settings.
Click the icon to open the popover, pick your pack, adjust sensitivity, and click away. That's the entire UI. No onboarding flow, no settings screens, no bloat.
💰One-Time Payment — $5
No subscription. No trial period. No "Pro" tier. Pay $5 once and own OuchMac forever, including all future updates.
This is intentional. OuchMac is a utility, not a service. You should not pay monthly for a menubar app. $5 is the price of a coffee and the value is immediate.
⚡Native macOS App
OuchMac is built natively for macOS — not Electron, not a web wrapper. It uses less than 0.1% CPU at idle and roughly 12MB of RAM.
You will not notice it running. It starts at login, stays out of your way, and fires only when there's an impact. No background network activity, no telemetry.
🔒Private by Default
OuchMac collects no data. It does not connect to the internet after activation. There are no analytics, no crash reporters phoning home, no user IDs.
The app reads from your accelerometer and plays a local audio file. That's the full data flow. Nothing leaves your machine.
💻macOS 13 Ventura and Later
OuchMac requires macOS 13 Ventura or later on a MacBook (Air or Pro). Desktop Macs do not have an accelerometer and are not compatible.
Tested on macOS 13, 14 Sonoma, and 15 Sequoia. Works on both Apple Silicon and Intel MacBooks.
With OuchMac vs. without
Your MacBook already has an accelerometer. OuchMac is the layer that makes it useful.
| Situation | With OuchMac | Without OuchMac |
|---|---|---|
| Friend bumps your MacBook | Goat scream. Room erupts. | Nothing happens. Boring. |
| Accidentally drop laptop on desk | Instant cartoon "OUCH" | You just wince internally |
| Lid open sound | ✅ Custom sound on every open | ❌ Silence |
| Reaction to impact intensity | ✅ Volume scales with force | ❌ No feedback at all |
| Office content creation | Record one video, go viral | Just another desk setup |
| Menubar footprint | One icon, zero CPU | N/A — but your Mac is boring |
| Cost over 1 year | $5 once, forever | $0 but no fun |
All features. One payment. $5.
No subscription. Works on any MacBook with macOS 13+.
